I can understand why this film is extremely popular, especially for young adults, because the element of friendship in this film is very natural. The group of friends that is portrayed in this film is just like my group of friends, and probably many of others, if not everybody. The story is inspirational and heart-warming. But then, since it is adapted from a popular novel, I strongly believe that the novel is way better than the film. As a film, 5 cm. is dragged and prolonged in the first half then being too short and non-climactic in the second half. Some humors work well and some scenes seem forced. But then, I'm saying this because I watch it now and I am already critical. If this movie comes out 12 years ago, I might be a fan. And yes... this movie makes me want to climbs the mountain again.
